About Beginner Friendly

Paint by Numbers Kits for Beginners

Every kit in this collection was picked for the same reason: you can finish it. Fewer paint pots, larger numbered zones, and designs that still look right if your brush slips a little. The canvas arrives pre-printed, the paints come pre-mixed to the exact colors of the picture, and brushes are in the box, so there is nothing to buy separately.

If you are hunting for easy things to paint, start with landscapes and large florals: wide zones, forgiving edges. Animals sit one notch up in difficulty. Some famous paintings are also easier than their reputation suggests. Van Gogh worked in thick, separate strokes that translate naturally into numbered zones, which is why our guide to painting Starry Night by numbers recommends it as a first classic.

Two practical tips before you pick. Choose the larger canvas when a size option is offered, because a bigger canvas means bigger zones, which is easier, not harder. And paint the darkest numbers first, so stray marks disappear under the lighter layers. When the first canvas is done, the full catalog is open, and if you would rather paint your own photo, the custom kit turns it into a numbered canvas. Not sure which kit to pick? The three-question quiz suggests a number of colors and a canvas size.

Beginner questions

Are paint by numbers kits worth it for a beginner?

Yes, if the kit matches your patience. A beginner kit removes the hard parts: drawing, mixing and choosing colors. You follow the numbers and still end up with a full painting for the wall. Start with a design from this collection rather than a detailed portrait, and the first canvas usually gets finished instead of abandoned.

What paint comes in a beginner kit?

Acrylic. Each kit includes numbered acrylic paints already matched to the canvas, in 24, 36 or 48 colors depending on the option you pick. Acrylic dries fast, covers well and cleans off brushes with water, which is why it suits a first project.

What tools do I need to start?

Nothing beyond the box. The pre-printed canvas, the paints, brushes in several sizes, a small reference image and step-by-step instructions are all included. A cup of water and a paper towel next to you make the session easier.

Which canvas size should a beginner choose?

16x20 in (40x50 cm) is the size we recommend. Bigger canvases have bigger numbered zones, so they are easier to paint, not harder. The small 12x12 in square packs the same picture into tighter zones.

Does the canvas come framed?

No, it ships unframed unless you add the DIY Frame Kit option on the product page.
